On Sunday, 10th July 2022, my wife, Jean, and I fly out from London Heathrow to Seattle on the west coast of the USA for the start of our long-planned trip to North America. We will not return to the UK until 14th October.
Most of the time will be spent in Canada, but we will start in Alaska for a cruise down the so-called Inside Passage, along the western coast until we disembark in Vancouver. We then concentrate on the western side of Canada, including Vancouver Island, the Rockies, Lake Louise and Banff, before flying to Toronto to start the second leg of the journey via Niagara Falls, Ottawa, Quebec, Montreal, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. We then finish off by visiting New England, where we hope to see some of the fall colours, Boston, New York and finally coming home on the Queen Mary 2 into Southampton Docks.
Quite a trip, I’m sure you’ll agree. We’ve been waiting for three years to get to the point where we can actually envisage going!
The purpose of this blog is to record the details of this once-in-a-lifetime journey as, with the best will in the world, one forgets, even though one thinks one will remember.
Expect plenty of pictures, and I hope I can convey some of the excitement and wonder we will be expecting to feel on the way. Feel free to join in and comment as we make progress!
It’s only 11 days to go as I write this, and the sense this is finally turning into reality is growing.
Can’t wait.
