Better night’s kip and an OK breakfast, although requests for omelettes caused a few furrowed brows. Sorted in the end.

Checked out with very little problem and started the looong drive around the Bay of Fundy to St. John, New Brunswick (not to be confused with St. John’s, Newfoundland).

Very straightforward journey along quiet main roads. Stopped at a Tim Horton’s in some Godforsaken town after a couple of hours, and the experience was marginally better than the last Tim Horton’s aeons ago. Coffee OK, but very little in the way of savoury snacks. Muffins, pastries, etc., galore. The patrons of the café were, ahem, a little odd….. Dorksville, I’m afraid.

A bit of excitement on the way as a female elk and her three fawns crossed this very fast main road.

Jean had checked on reviews of the hotel we were headed for, the Hilton St. John, last night, most of which were, frankly, dire. Our expectations were therefore not high when we rocked up at around 4.45 p.m.

Check-in was bright, efficient and in English. Ascended to the room to find it a bit tired, rather brown, but a decent size and great views. Perfectly acceptable – we’ve had a lot worse. I’ve also had a couple of follow-up texts checking that everything is OK. Answer – fine so far.

It’s an interesting looking town, at this range, anyway.

Unfortunately, the weather tomorrow is not looking great. Rain all but guaranteed, so we’ll have to be prepared for that, whatever we decide to do.

I’d had the foresight to book a restaurant for tonight’s meal. The restaurant at the hotel looked a bit limited, to be honest.

Jean betook herself for a bath, as the facility was available, and thereafter we set off on the 10 minute walk to the Italian At Night restaurant. I hadn’t been able to book a table any earlier than 8.30 p.m., so that at least indicated it was popular.

And so it proved. Quiet walk to get there, but the joint was jumping when we arrived. Very busy and noisy. However, the food was excellent and the service very good. We could only manage the one course each.

No particular plans for tomorrow, but something will materialise, you can be sure. Find out tomorrow what we did.
